ALY BROWN

Aly was born in England, 26th May 1957. Her introduction to stone carving was at Heatherley’s Art School in the second year of her sculpting Diploma, where her passion for carving began.

She enjoys the challenge of carving directly in a variety of stones, such as marble, alabaster, pyrophilite and chlorite. Drawing her inspiration from her travels abroad she uses photography to capture the shape or form, which catches her eye at that moment, whether wildlife, structural or organic.

Aly’s work demonstrates her unique understanding of both the visual and textural sensuality of the medium. Her flowing and almost organic forms symbiotically merge both abstract and figurative elements, revealing the plasticity of the medium, which transforms our preconceived understanding of stone.
